The elephant in the room of the Edifier TWS1 Pro 2 is that its battery life is shorter than average.
With Active Noise Cancelling activated and while playing some music, you get four hours of playtime out of these earbuds. That's roughly 1 or 2 hours less battery than nearly all competitors around this price. You can put the earbuds in the charging case for 10 minutes to get another hour of listening time out of them, but if you plan on using them entire workdays or for many long travels, you may look elsewhere.
Mind you: if you ‘just’ use earbuds for everyday listening while you commute, some calls and some moments of closing yourself from the world around you, four hours is enough. And if that's the case, you may be in for a treat.
Edifier TWS1 Pro's ANC is impressive
Following the already good Active Noise Cancelling of recent sub-$50 earbuds like the Baseus M2s, QCY HT05 and QCY HT07 Arcbuds, the Edifier TWS1 Pro 2 even takes it up a notch.
These have good Active Noise Cancellation. The function won't rule out all sounds around you, but it does heavily reduce the volume of nearly all frequencies. Especially mid-tones are handled well, meaning conversations or a radio playing are (re)moved to the background very well. Lower tones, whether it's the constant humming of an airconditioner or motor engines, are also softened successfully. What remains is some higher-pitched noise like rainfall or heavy wind.
The basic but functioning Edifier Connect app lets you choose which ANC functions you cycle through from the earbuds. It can be worthwhile to replace the ANC off function for the outstanding Wind Noise Reduction setting, as it works wonderfully: you still get decent noise cancelling, but wind noise is kept out of your music, even when you run or cycle with the earbuds in. The Transparency mode helps to hear and locate traffic around you when you need it, but it doesn't pass conversations through very well when you're also listening to music.
Calling is a mixed bag, comfort is not
Speaking of conversations: having one yourself is easy… in quieter indoor spaces. The TWS1 Pro 2 puts your voice through loud, clear and full in phone and video calls. Your voice also easily rises above regular background noise, although other voices around you still come through clearly in calls. Unfortunately, it's almost undoable to take a call outside, as wind noise takes your voice hostage.
What's less of a mixed bag, is the comfort these earbuds provide. Edifier's newest takes the oval rubber ear tip and oval earpiece of the AirPods Pro, and glues it to a subtle attachment that barely sticks out of your ears. It looks a bit like the Soundcore Life A3i perhaps, but the execution is better: these are straightforward and comfortable to wear. They stay in well when you're working out too, which is further backed by the IP54 dust and splash proof waterproof rating.
The controls are as straightforward as the fit. The touch panels respond well to your touch, but avoid single taps: the app only lets you customize controls for double-tapping or triple-tapping the left and right earbud. That means there's no room for volume controls on the earbuds when you also want to switch between ANC modes and change tracks.
The Edifier TWS1 Pro 2 automatically pauses music when you take an earbud out and can continue playback when you put it back in - dependent on your preferences and setting from the app.
Great sound comes in two sound equalizers
The best addition from the Edifier Connect app for Android and iPhone, however, is the sound presets. As seen on earlier products from the brand like the NeoBuds Pro, this Edifier comes with two EQ presets that feel like they could be the default setting: Classic and Pop.
The first has a strong focus on clear and pronounced mid-tones, the second throws in a deeper and fuller bass, without damaging the clarity of these mid-tones.
Yes - it's the mid-tones where it's at on this TWS1 Pro 2. Edifier puts them front and center, and not just female and higher-pitched male vocals. Center mid-tones such as guitars, piano play, and classical instruments sound clear and natural. They're rewarded with a fair bit of space, which helps them to bring out to individual details even in more crowded compositions - like orchestral classical pieces. It goes too far to speak of precise instrument placement, but the sound is nice and wide, with instruments coming from your left and right.
In rare occasions on especially the Classic preset, brighter female vocals can appear a bit nasal and miss some of the refined dynamics they have on an audiophile competitor like the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2. Sometimes, it can also strike as if the upper-mids are pushed forward for the sake of it, instead to improve the tonal balance. Still - mids sounds richer, more nuanced than pretty much all ANC-bearing competitors at this price point.
Now, center mids were also the strong point of the original Edifier TWS1 Pro. It's around the mids where the Pro 2 made a jump up. Treble is more balanced: higher-pitched vocalists and instruments get enough room too shine, but upper-mids and highs are never overbearing. Highs are rolled-off before they become peaky. There's more weight in the lower frequencies too.
The amount of lows depends on the sound preset you use. With the Classic equalizer, lower-mids are neutral and the bass isn't boosted too much. Its focused on delivering quickly paced mid-bass slams that don't last too long and don't dive very deep - although the sub-bass can still give a solid rumble.
With the Pop preset, lower-mids gain weight and provide more warmth to the music, taking a little bit of emphasis from the center-mids. Moreover, the bass increases in size. Both the mid-bass thumps and sub-bass rumbles sound full, thicker and a little deeper. The thumping can become a little bit messy in songs that push the bass fiercely out of themselves, but its presentation is usually (even) more fun for modern genres like dance, electronic pop, and techno.
The Edifier TWS1 Pro 2 wireless earbuds are highly comfortable, have great Active Noise Cancelling and come with great sound. While not perfect, it's an excellent performer for the price.

Edifier TWS1 Pro 2 comparisons
Edifier TWS1 Pro 2 vs Soundcore Life A3i
The most direct alternative to the Edifier TWS1 Pro 2 is the Soundcore Life A3i or Soundcore Life Dot 3i. They are alike in price, form factor, and performance… except Active Noise Cancelling, which is better on the Edifier - removing (even) more middle sounds like chatter and radios around you. The Soundcore has actual buttons with more/ volume control options, and its app is more polished. The Life A3i has more emphasis on its treble and sounds clearer, with female and male vocals appearing a tad brighter. The Edifier has a warmer sound, with a rounder and fatter bass; the Soundcore's bass strikes a tad faster. Both sound great for the price - but it's the Edifier's ANC that makes it win this comparison.

Edifier TWS1 Pro vs Baseus Bowie M2s
While the Active Noise Cancelling on the Edifier TWS1 Pro 2 is stronger, the Baseus Bowie M2s is another good competitor in the same price. Baseus’ earbuds have stems, longer battery life, recharge insanely quick, and are a bit more competent for outdoor phone calls. On top of that, you can also connect them to two devices at the same time thanks to the multipoint connection. The Edifier has more separation in the sound: individual instruments enjoy more space and mid-tones and higher notes pop out a bit more than on the warmer and more harmonic Bowie M2s, of which the bass can crackle a little and the maximum volume can't go as high.

Edifier TWS1 Pro vs QCY HT07 ArcBuds
The QCY HT07 also dubbed ‘ArcBuds’ is even more affordable than the Edifier, coming in at around 35 dollars. It also has more impressive battery life, boasting up to 7 hours on a single charge. The earbuds feel bigger and warmer in your ears, however, and QCY's app is both amateurish and intrusive on Android phones. They handle phone and video calls around the same, but the Edifier has stronger Active Noise Cancelling and offers more musical detail. While the QCY sounds warmer and bigger - it can have a bit of a big stadium-vibe in electronic music - but the TWS1 Pro 2 is clearer, more precise and offers better separation in between instruments.
